For the last 31 years, Mr. Moxley’s efforts have centered on habitat and hydrological restoration and creation of a quality public outdoor recreational area.

Danon Moxley, Biological Scientist IV

Danon has served as Leader for the Tenoroc Project for the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FFWCC) for more 31 years and has been a part of the FFWCC for more than 45 years.  

As a University of Central Florida (UCF) student he set out on the path to earn a B.S. in Limnology (freshwater ecology). Danon grew up a “cape brat”, with his father an engineer at NASA. He spent many of his formative years with his days spent at the beach, fishing, surfing and forming a close relationship with Mother Nature.

A short timeline of his career:

  • 1977 - FFWC - Southwest Regional Fisheries Biologist 
  • 1982 – Danon transferred to the newly formed Lake Restoration Section, working as a Restoration Biologist and was eventually promoted to Statewide Project Leader.
  • 1992 - Danon was selected as Project Leader for the Tenoroc Fish Management Area.
  •  2015 - Tenoroc area became a Public Use Area at 8,300-acres under the Division of Habitat Species Conservation.

Tenoroc, sometimes referred to as “The Roc”, is a former phosphate mine with unique restoration challenges. Danon’s efforts at Tenoroc have centered on habitat and hydrological restoration, and creating quality public outdoor recreational opportunities.
